Today Metra has posted job openings for many of the job titles we are all familiar with – engineer, driver, driver coach, driver trainer, driver mentor, and more. You can read more about the job titles here.
The job titles for the Metra job titles that we’re talking about are really exciting. They’re a little bit old-hat, but they are also very new for a couple reasons. First, the fact that we are talking about job titles that were created in the late 1990s (at least) is really exciting because it is a reflection of our technological advancements from that time. The job titles that we’re all familiar with now didn’t exist until the early 2000s.
In addition to the job title, the other big aspect of the Metra job titles that is new is the fact that they are based on an actual Metra facility. This is a big deal because I am an old enough engineer to remember when Metra was basically the only train system in the world. Metra had been in existence for almost a century before the advent of the NYC Subway system, and had been in existence for a lot longer before there was a Metra station.
The new job titles are a huge improvement, at least for me. They’ve been around for a decade and in my mind, they are a perfect transition between the old and new Metra job titles. Although I have not actually been to a Metra building, I’ve imagined the thought of walking to a Metra station in the 1980s or 1990s.
I think its the thought of the subway that makes the transition so much easier. There is so much nostalgia to it, and the fact that the station is always a few blocks away from me makes it easier to imagine walking there.
This is true. Metra is like a subway station in a way – it was my first job out of college and I spent two years on it. I can see the whole system, stations, stations, stations, stations, stations, stations, stations. The subway is a little easier to visualize because you can see the stations in the background.
When you think about it, is it any less sad because the station is always in the background of your mind? I think it is because the stations are always there. The metro is just the other way around. Or maybe it’s just easier to feel like you’re already there if you have it on a train.
The main character of the game is a real estate developer who doesn’t know what he’s talking about. He’s a real estate developer who’s not a real estate developer, but he’s actually a real estate developer. In this film he’s not only working on our town but actually building a lot of houses. He’s also actually building a new house for us. That’s about it.
