The Brookhaven National Laboratory, in Wisconsin, is the first national lab to offer a full-time job. I would have to say, for the money, it is one of the best paychecks in the United States. This means that this job pays well, but it does have some downsides. The pay is really good, but the commute is probably not the best.
The commute in Brookhaven is not the best, but it is the best of the best. It takes a while to get to work. Some of the other labs I have worked for have been like that. The commute is like the difference between getting to work at a small town college and getting to work at a large city college. And if you are at the latter, you are going to be making more money.
I’ll let the people who have been to Brookhaven National Lab in the past know for sure that the commute is not the best, but it is the best of the best in comparison to other jobs that I have worked at.

If you are going to be that person, then you need to be well prepared. For example, it might not be a good idea to just go to a school and major in a field that has few jobs available.

This is true no matter what field you major in. For example, I had a job at the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) that I got through a referral from a colleague.
I just got an email from a friend at the National Institute of Standards and Technology that she contacted us and they have hired me as a postdoc. Her name is Carol Fisher, and she is a grad student at NIST.
I think it would be really great if there was a way to actually put a person in contact with someone at a top research university and have that person call them for an interview, but I don’t see how that would happen. This is because an employer who gets hired at an NIST job is likely to want to find another job in the field. I know this because I have tried to get a job somewhere that does nothing but research.
I know that it is a good idea to be aware of what you can do to help people get hired and how to do it. I have not had much to say yet about the fact that the people who work at NIST can not do a lot of the work themselves. It is also possible the people who work at NIST are just looking for a way to get hired, and not working for someone else.
